Air Quality

  • Tracks environmental regulations affecting fuels, marketing and refining in the Chicago metropolitan area and Northwest Indiana.

  • Represents state trade association in work groups identifying control measures to meet federal air quality standards.

  • Develops comments to state environmental agencies on proposed control measures.

  • Over a period of several years, successfully recruited businesses and institutions to participate in Clean Air Counts, a voluntary initiative to reduce ozone-causing emissions in the greater Chicago region. Collaborated with lead sponsors, including the U.S. EPA, Delta Institute, Metropolitan Mayors Caucus of Greater Chicago, and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce.

Climate Change

  • Identifies opportunities for climate scientists and energy solutions experts to address the small- and medium-size business community on climate science, potential impacts on Illinois and business, and the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

  • Represents client on state climate change advisory group. Works with environmental and business stakeholders and policymakers.

  • In 2006 and 2004, identified policy and legislative opportunities in seven Midwest states in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, biofuels and climate change. Interviewed state officials, trade associations, industry and environmental groups. Oversaw state contractors.

  • With the Illinois EPA, the Illinois Governor’s Office, Lake Michigan Air Directors Consortium, and other stakeholders, developed the framework for a voluntary Midwest greenhouse gas registry. This effort led to discussions involving 39 states, several regional air quality groups, tribes, Canadian provinces and a Mexican state and the creation of The Climate Registry. Economic Analysis

  • Coordinated economists’ analysis of the consumer and economic benefits of a proposed new crude oil pipeline that would deliver 400,000 barrels per day of Canadian crude to Illinois and surrounding area. Set up meetings with the public utility commission members and staff.
